Happy Birthday Captain and all the Tree Litter

Happy Birthday to Captain and all of the Tree Litter. 3 years ago a brave momma named Hanna with the help of Megan and Josh brought a beautiful litter of puppies and for some of us like myself we were lucky enough to get get. so here is Captain's story and drama:

I began looking for our second Cardi after our first one Malibu was close to 2 years old. She was born on 11-26-06. Denise and I had always wanted a second set of children 2 years apart so as it got close to Malibu's birthday I started searching. I am a fanatic as it goes to looking things up on the Internet and researching. I went through the Cardigan Welsh Corgi Club of America Breeder's list and tried to stay close to home and found C-Myste in Southern Oregon. Once on the site I was delighted that they had just had a litter now 3 years ago today. I was looking for a Blue Boy and this would become my first Show (Conformation) Dog. I grew up in a Newfoundland Show home but never showed or did junior handling. I started the process through Carolyn and was fortunate enough to get by Blue Boy Captain I have today. Now GCH C-Myste Whomping Willow. The litter theme was Trees in Literature and my son Andrew came up with Whomping Willow from the Harry Potter books. And as everyone knows he was the biggest in the litter and the name fit. He was always to have the call name Captain. The Rums have it ie, Malibu and Captain. The drama you may ask is the fact that we had our hearts set on Duncan as our blue boy but as it was to be a show boy it was up to the ladies, Carolyn, Mandy, and Megan. Just before we went up to pick up our new addition at Carolyn's did we find out our boy would be Colbert now Captain. We are so pleased with Captain and how he has done that it goes to show the TRUE BREEDER knows what they are doing. SO a very BIG THANK YOU to Carolyn, Mandy, and especially Meagan who helped wonderful Momma Hanna give birth to our special Blue Boy. Plus a big thanks to Wally for being a good Dad too. Enjoy some pics

North West Cardigan Fanciers Specialty

So I took Cappy and this year Denise went up to Richland, Wa for the NWCF Specialty and supported show Sept 30, and Oct 1. My goal this with well over 50 entries and many specials was to make a cut in BOB. The other thing we did was let Megan show Cappy. This was the first shows ever that I did not show him myself. I must say Megan did a great job and it was really nice and insightful watching from outside the ring. Sadly Cappy did not make a cut on Friday, but as we all know new day new judge. On Saturday under breeder judge Emily Fish Captain not only made the first cut of boys from 12 to only 5 but then made the second cut once all boys and girls were back in. The NWCF put on a great special and I will return but now they hope to put on more supported shows which I will attend also. So enjoy some pics.

Cappy's Second BOB

So this past Sunday Cappy took Best of Breed on Sunday at the Sir Francis Drake Kennel Club here in Vallejo. I came into the day frustrated of Saturday's results which was nothing against 2 other special boys and a special bitch. Not even Select so I was frustrated plus no Harvey was there. ON Sunday the Select Veteran form Saturday was absent bit I took the Breed over Saturday's BOB. Sunday's count that showed was 3-7 ( 2-1). So this made me happy. Cappy did nothing in Group later that day but being a dog who does not show well in the afternoon he did very well, even Denise said we did well. I felt he showed better in the afternoon than the morning. Our next stop will be the NWCF Special at the end of the month with another great turn out. My goal is to make the cut any thin more will be a bonus. Then we have a 3 day show in Dixon in Oct and not sure I might head back up to Carolyn's in November for the Roseburg shows. Plus still debating Eukanuba if it was still in Long Beach I would definitely be there but all the way to Orlando just before Christmas is a hard one. Plus If Cappy finishes his Bronze next year he will get another invite. SO I hope everyone enjoys the new pic and will see y'all in Richland.

Cappy's First BOB

This is Cappy's first official BOB win photo. We have been working on moving better and plan to keep it up. We are scheduled to show 6 more days before the end of June. He needs 10 pints and 1 major to join his Uncle Pie in the Grand Champion arena. Looking at the counts for Klamath Falls I now wish I would have gone. Next shows are May 21, 22 in Vallejo and then the 4 day cluster in Vallejo called Woofstock which I highly recommend to everyone to come to. I will supply the wine. June 9,10,11, and 12. Sat the 11Th will have Jerry Garcia's widow as special BIS judge with the Dead music playing throughout the grounds. Great times at this show.

Sacramento Results and Vallejo this Weekend

So last weekend while everyone was enjoying the Nationals, I wasn't able to go, I did have the opportunity to show in Sacramento. I was hoping with Harvey off to Houston we could get a Breed win and Group experience. On Saturday there was a Harvey puppy boy, a blue open bitch, and Jacque Chapman had a veteran special dog that showed with us. Captain decided he didn't want to move at all on Saturday so his movement was bad but the ground a table he did fine. Jaque took breed and I was happy for her since I have not seen her in about 6 months. ON Sunday was the same group but Jacque did not show with her veteran. So just Cappy , puppy, and open bitch. Captain finally got his first BOB. This was of course after the wonderful C-Myst family had a great showing in Houston, Congrats to all. Captain moved much better on Sunday. Group was whole other story. Cappy does not like showing in the afternoon and after the long wait, we showed at 9, he was done. He did well in pose and on the table but I almost had to drag him around the ring. Plus the group judge was the breed judge from Sat.

So I need help or ideas on how to get Cappy moving better. Even in the morning he does not move all that well and I believe this is the one thing holding us back. I believe a lot has to do with me but I am now getting frustrated. SO please email me with suggestions if you have any, spons7@pacbell.net

This weekend we will be showing in Vallejo. I will not show tomorrow as I work but will be there on Sunday. Cappy has done well at this show in the past. On a great side note it sounds like Kathy will be there with Denali and Sage competing in Rally, and Amber who has Rosie (Cappy and Sage little sister from the second Wally-Hanna) is coming up to see everyone. Alden is trying to make it but with her mom still recovering might not be able to make it. So I will posy pics of everyone and results hopefully Sunday night.

Here are a couple of Pics, I tried the group video buy it did't work. If you like I can try to email it if you want. The Video uploaded to Facebook so check it out if need be add me as a friend. Trenton Sponsler.

Sacramento and Basic Updates

So this weekend Cappy will be showing in Sacramento, I decided to enter for a couple of reasons. 1 it is an indoor show and Cappy moves better on solid ground, 2 most everyone is in Houston at the Nationals ( We really wanted to go), 3 hopefully we will do well and get experience never know could be our first breed win and check out group. Captain is getting use to the ring now as seen by him almost trying to jump up on the table now. He seems to be getting used to it and is even starting to keep his ears up on the table. Makes me proud. We at 9:00 both days with the same count of 1-2(2-0). Not sure who the other special is. Major for us is 5 so if everyone shows and we can take breed that will be 3rd major. Personally don't care about the points would like breed. Plenty of time for points. I am hoping to finish his GCH before the summer. We are entered in a few shows between now and then. Everyone should come and show in Vallejo on June 9 to 12Th. It is a great cluster called Woofstock. I'll bring the wine.

In the normal world the family along with more family and our besties are going to Mexico (Puerto Vallarta) in last June. (puppies are going to brother Fig's house, Thanks Alden) SO in an attempt to get in shape for the beach and for I guess my health we have been going to the gym for the past 6-7 months. I really enjoy step class. I worked out with a trainer for a while and lost about 13 pounds and then only went here and there. I have kept the weight off but still need to lose more. This week I started C25K, that is couch to 5K. Using a treadmill or the streets you alternate walking and running for 9 weeks and at the end you are suppose to be able to run the 5K, 3 times a week I finished my first week today. Hopefully I keep it up. I have the app on both my Evo and Ipad2.

Ashley is slowly finishing up her first year at Patton College and Softball. She hie a great home run last week which was the first Denise and I saw in her College years. Andrew is in his Third quarter at UC Davis. Studying Poly Sci and hopefully law school after is first four years. He tried to be an RA for next year but was wait listed for upper class man. He will be renting a house with friends for next year.

That is all I will rant on about for now. Will blog, tweet, FB over the weekend with maybe some phone calls if things go well. Also on a side note Cappy got his first inquiry into his Stud Dog Services. Will be talking to a few people about it and I guess it is time to get some more books to read.

Vallejo Cluster Results, a Good Weekend

So Cappy had a big weekend. We had a tough day Thursday with rain and soggy ground but he pulled out Select for 2 more points towards his GCH. Friday we were in the same ring but this time it was raining going up. Meaning it was not raining but the ground was so saturated that it seamed like water was splashing up so much it was raining up. Cappy did well though and pulled out his first major towards his Select with 3 more GCH points. Saturday was even better as he pulled out a 4 point major towards his GCH and also beat out another special in doing so. Today was a brindle day so Cappy was the wrong color but hey there have been blue days too. After it was all said and done Cappy is now at 14 points (unofficial) towards his GCH. Here are a few pics from today as the photographer was there. Thanks honey.

Captain Update

So we are gearing up for the Spring Shows. We will show next week, Th,Fri,Sat,Sun in Vallejo. I am thinking of just showing local through the Summer and then see everyone in the Fall in San Diego and Washington. Might even try to join the NW Cardi Fanciers. Captain is doing great as is Malibu. I have been working some on a faster gait for better movement with him. Word is that my main competitors are slowly moving out although I did see one compete in Florida the other week.

So here is the count and times for next week:

Thursday show at 9:45 ring 9 count 4-8 (2-0)

Friday show at 9:00 ring 9 count 6-8 (2-0)

Saturday show at 8:00 ring 10 count 7-11 (3-0)

Sunday show at 9:00 ring 9 count 6-10 (2-0)

So at least a major if we can pull off Select. Cappy is currently at 5 points with no majors for his GCH. As always I will tweet and facebook as things unfold and hopefully a few calls if things go well. I think Cappy is looking good Denise thinks a little skinny. He weighed 36.6 at the vets the other day.

So here is to good luck and will let the masses know how things go.
